hi,
what happened to the spanish part of the Transphyrenean line
Puigcerdà--Barcelona? HAFAS doesn't list any trains at the moment.

Some sources* mention plans to regauge the line to 1435mm/UIC --
what's the state of that project?

regards

gregor

Don't trust Hafas when it comes to Renfe, they often don't have any
current timetables ....

tells us:

recorrido.

will settle down an alternative service of buses that will communicate

the continuity the route.

Expect this kind of disruption to happen once in a while until 2010,
i.e. when the full modernisation of that route is complete.

There are indeed plans to re-gauge this line to 1,435mm, and the new
sleepers laid there actually allow for that.

But I don't think the re-gauging will actually extend further south
than Vic, as that would disrupt too much commuter traffic in the
Barcelona area, especially as this line is wholly single-tracked.

Some time next year, RENFE-Cercanias is to invite bids for CIVIA
"Alpino" EMUs due on this line, as semi-refurbished Class 440 and
fully-refurbished 440R EMUs are nearing the end of their life cycle.
These new EMUs would closely derive from current CIVIA EMUs (Class
463, 464 and 465), but they would be adapted to the steep gradients of
that line, and feature more comfortable interiors. They will
reportedly either have variable-gauge or be prepared to that or UIC
fixe-gauge...

Let's watch out what happens...

Phil

RENFE national or international* suburban services
will not be found in DB hafas travel planner,
what is indeed a pity.
