Could someone tell me what the cost of a ticket on the Casanova train
might be? I can find timetables but no ticket prices.
Would anyone have any suggestions about a quick overnight trip from
the Venice area into Slovenia? What other ways are there to travel
into Slovenia or Croatia. We will be travelling at Christmas time.

Accodring to http://www.jizdenka.cz/IT.aspx TCV fare Venezia S.
Lucia - Ljubljana is EUR 32,2 (one-way). The Casanova requires an
additional seat reservation, which costs a few Euros.

Prices in SIT can be found here:
http://www.slo-zeleznice.si/sl/mednarodni_promet/mednarodne_povezave/italija/benetke_venezia/
The fare posted there is SIT 8067, that fits together with the EUR
32,2.

The timetable changes on Dec. 12:

The Casanova will not change it's timetable, but the train will be
extended to Maribor (with a connection to Graz):

EC 51: Venezia SL 15:44 - Ljubljana arr 19:40/dep 19:45 - Maribor
21:33
http://fahrplan.oebb.at/bin/oebb.w02/zuginfo.exe/dn/8451/140074/681916/338141/4095/

EC 50: Maribor 8:32 - Ljubljana arr 10:20/deo 10:25 - Venezia SL
14:21
http://fahrplan.oebb.at/bin/oebb.w02/zuginfo.exe/dn/671865/361211/581388/66739/4095/

Connecting service to Graz:
IC 152 Maribor 21:40 - Graz 22:42
IC 153 Graz 7:24 - Maribor 8:26

The existing Intercity "Drava" (Trieste - Budapest) will be
extended to Venezia, rerouted via Zagreb and upgraded to an
EuroCity train:

EC 53: Venezia SL 9:00 - Ljubljana 13:13/13:20 - Zagreb
15:40/15:52 - Budapest keleti 20:58
http://fahrplan.oebb.at/bin/oebb.w02/zuginfo.exe/dn/286032/232599/365812/87562/4095/

EC 52: Budapest keleti 8:35 - Zagreb 13:41/13:55 - Ljubljana
16:12/16:16 - Venezia SL 20:31
http://fahrplan.oebb.at/bin/oebb.w02/zuginfo.exe/dn/593040/334934/798014/201327/4095/

For a trip from Venezia to Ljubljana this train might be more
convenient than the "Casanova" as it arrives earlier in Ljubljana
and leaves later.

The timetable links in this posting are temporary and might change
after some days.

Does anyone know, whether or not this train will have a connection to
IC 982 Corvinus in Gyékényes? This would provide a fast correspondence
between Zagreb and Vienna.
EC 53 arrives in Gyékényes at 17:10

IC 982 runs from Pécs (14.48) via Dombóvár alsó - Gyékényes -
Nagykanizsa - Szombathely(19.08/20) - Sopron(20.17/27) - Mattersburg -
Wiener Neustadt - Wien Meidling to Wien Südbf(21.33)
Detailed schedule between Pécs and Szombathely is not yet available
in online-timetables.
From timetables of existing trains I would estimate an approximate
departure time in Gyékényes at 17:20.

This route would be 40 minutes faster than the direct trains
via Maribor and Graz.

Meanwhile Hungarian timetables have been added to
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/ so I found out, that this
connection will be realized:

EC 53 IC982
from Venezia
Zagreb Glavni Kolod. d 15:52
from
Gyékényes a 17:10 Pécs
d 17:20 17:13

Nagykanizsa a 17:45 17:36
d 17:48 17:50
to Budapest
Wien Süd a 21:33
